So. This is my first time on the website, and first time posting on a forum. About a year ago, I purchased a 1958 Case 801B tractor with the case-o-matic. I am finally getting around to working on it after it sitting for almost a year because right after I bought it, we bought a house that required some remodel. Anyways, after scouring websites, forums, manuals, and consulting with mechanics and case dealerships, I am thoroughly confused as to what type of fluid should be used in the torque converter housing. I know it holds 4-5 gallons, and is separate from the transmission unless your seals leak. The fluid I took out smelled like regular gear oil and was a silvery/black with bits of fiberous material in it. I bought the tractor for 1500 bucks, with the only things really being wrong with it: a few darkened/not working gauges, missing rear clamshell fenders, a WORE OUT water pump, the linkage for the injector pump was a little messed up and when you tried to shut it off it still popped and grunted so you had to open the compression release to get it to shut down, and the pto dragging a little when it was not engaged. I am working through the small problems and getting it cleaned up to be a in service show tractor. I DO NOT WANT TO MESS UP THE CLUTCHES IN THE CASE-O-MATIC. Anyone that owns one, works on them, or has extensive experience with this transmission, ANY AND ALL HELP WOULD BE GREAT! I am mechanically inclined, but this is my first tractor. By the way, still learning all of the abbreviations, so if you are going to abbreviate, put the full word before or after. THANK YOU!
