Were any john deere model 4010 tractors built during 1960? If so what serial numbers would they be and where can I find documentation supporting it.

well, there must have been, as the "New Generation of Power" was introduced in August of 1960 in Dallas, and included 4010's.

One of my favorite things to chase is 1960 waterloo built 2 cyls as they are WAAAY scarcer than 1959's . Like already pointed out production of new gen stuff started well before the end of the 1960 model year but I'm pretty sure they are all called 1961's though . Like early 4 bolt B's that were produced in the 1934 model year but are still called 1935's .

Cars and trucks are sold by "model year" and not year of production. Not sure if Deere did the same with tractors. I have a 1960 Deere 1010 crawler that was sold by a dealer in June of 1960. Serial # 11770. 1010s start with serial # 10001 in 1960 and are Dubuque machines. 4010s are "hybrids" with Waterloo and Dubuqie mixed together. 4010 serial # starts in 1961 with #1000. Who knows when the first ones were actually manufactured? My Deere corporate history book says the Waterloo-10s came a little later then the Dubuque.

JD where do you come up with the hybrids bs the only think on a 4010 that would be the same is maybe the steering wheel. waterloo had its own engineering dept . i think deere got dubuqie engineers from IH there was not any thing on a 1010 or 2010 that was the same as Waterloo but the paint

Although I do agree calling a 3010/4010 any type of Dubuque hybrid is stretching it as engines hyd's & braking systems are totally different. 2010,3010 & 4010 shared some of the same trans components the drum (part # R31026) being one of them are some of the only similarities I can think of besides paint & logos.

Thanks Jim i did not know that as i never worked a 2010 trans mainly because there were all most none sold in this part of the contry(to Small) i would note that R31026 is a waterloo part #

If you have a 1010 that was sold in June 1960 it is very rare as they were not introduced to the dealers until late Aug 1960 in Dallas. I was in Dallas at the show and at that time the new tractors introduced were the 1010, 2010, 3010 and 4010. The 5010 came several years later. If you talk about hybrid the 1010 is a lot of 420, 430 parts with a different hood and a 4 cylinder engine
