Hello. Been lurking for weeks after purchasing my 2000 4 cyl gasser, and finally have a question. Going thru everything on it and im eliminating the aftermarket inline artic fox coolant heater. I've got a heater hose coming from the left side of the engine just in front of the starter to the heater which was mounted on the right front of the engine near the lower rad hose. My lower radiator has a 3 inch nipple that drops below the lower rad hose and is molded into the casting, presumably for the hose connection. My question is can I eliminate the hose all together and cap each end, or is the hose needed for added coolant flow to the rear of the engine? Aftermarket radiators do not seem to have the bung for a heater hose so im conflicted on if its needed. Thank you

Hello Jedeye2 (Jedi lol!) welcome to YT!

“molded into the casting” seems like an odd description. The bottom tank on the radiator should be brass so that makes it confusing, any proper addition there should be soldered on. But these old tractors tend to get all sorts of treatment with epoxy/JB weld etc. A photo would be helpful. My “guess” is that you can eliminate that connection, there was definitely nothing of the sort on the tractor originally.
Messicks Ford 2000 4 cylinder That link shows the radiator and its connections.
In addition to the above link this is a link to the manufacturers catalog, CNHI Ford 2000 4 cyl part catalog
If it pops up I would suggest you X out of the option to choose a dealer, unless you get to the point that you want to actually purchase a part from your dealer. You can use the two in conjunction, the modified parts catalog for your tractor by the dealer Messicks in PA linked above The basic layout and naming used is identical in both. The CNHI catalog has “preview” windows of the sections so it is helpful to identify what you are looking for when you don’t know names.
This is not suggesting that this is the only source for these parts. There is often multiple other sources for a part. Having the part number and searching for the part on the web can lead you to decide where to purchase a part taking into consideration various pricing levels.

Thank you for the reply and for the helpful links. This is def molded or fitted into the lower rad hose bung of the radiator-almost wonder if its not a cold weather package or something?

Perhaps a pipe nipple screwed into the drain port?

Looks like a drain port to me. Jim
Entirely poss. It was hooked to an Artic Fox 110v in line coolant heater. Other end was a nipple fitting on the engine block behind the oil filter and in front of the starter. I've removed the aftermarket heater all together. Pipe plugged the block side and put a small hose on the lower hose bung to act as a drain/crap catcher. My inquiry was to see if it was needed for circulation to move coolant from the rear of the block for any reason (poor circulation, weak flow, etc..) Weird how I cant seem to find anything on it but who knows who did what to it in the past.
