1980 yanmar 336d tractor

can someone tell me why my tractor acts like the battery is dead when i try to start it when it is cold outside it has a new alternator and voltage regulator and battery if i leave it in the heat it starts fine its like the battery is dead in the cold any ideas to help would be great thanks brian

Make sure all battery connections are clean and tight. Cold weather will have an effect there. Your battery might be on its last legs & cold weather can make it give up. Its possible your starter is getting weak and cold will point it out.

Might be your battery is underpowered takes a lot more CCA in the cold than when its warm.I have a Yanmar
330 and have a 1000 CCA battery in it

when trying to start after awhile if i tap on the side of the starter it will finely start how can a starter make it seem like my battery is going dead thanks

Don"t know why the starter drags down the system, cause I"m not good on electronics. But, my Yanmar really, really didn"t like starting in cool weather. charge the bat and charge it again and bought a new bat. Finally took the starter off and all that black powder falling out. Wow! Bought a new starter and that machine fires right up.

If tapping on the starter sometimes helps, there"s a good possibility that the brushes are worn down so far that they are not consistently making good contact with the armature. That"s the first thing I would want to check. Then, if they were still good, I would make sure that they could move freely in their slides; there could be rust/corrosion or dirt interfering with free movement. If it"s one of these problems, the armature will soon be damaged, but the starter might be very economical to repair if fixed immediatiely.
