2-85 VS 2-105

I know that the 2-105 is a turbocharged 2-85. Is there any difference in the rest of the tractor, trans, rear end? Have been looking for another tractor,1650 diesel or White 2-70. Found a 2-85 for just a little more $$$. Wondering if there are any more differences between the two. Chris

The 2-105 has a bigger clutch-13" compared to 12" on the 2-85. It also has an engine oil cooler where the 2-85 does not. I would assume a bigger radiator also. Transmission and rear end is the same.

I was told once the rear of the 105 had 2 more spider gears than the 85. No personal experience though.

The rear end might have a 'steady bearing' on the back side of the ring gear like the 1950 series did but the 1850 didn't.
I don't know about the newer brakes, but the 1950 had triple-disc brakes as well. Maybe that was changed in the 2- series.

I'm not going to steer you away from a 2-85 because I've sat behind the wheel of one and they are a good tractor but... the 2-85 compared to the 1650,1655,2-70 are totally different tractors. Not sure what you have in mind use wise but the 1650,1655,2-70 are a smaller framed, more nimble tractor. The 2-85 is not as agile but will do a little heavier work because of the higher horsepower. Some would say the 2-85 is too big for some jobs and too little for other jobs. Same could be said for the 1650,1655,2-70 depending on the application. So make sure whatever you choose meets your expectations.

Thanks for the reply's. I have an 1850 that I like real well, looking for something to plant and spray with, and maybe put a loader on. Never used a 1650, just thought I'd like one. Then today I stumbled across a 1850 Diesel that needs some steering work that I think I might go look at tomorrow after work. Not for sure what I want, just want to get another tractor for a backup in case I have a problem with 1850, I won't be totally stranded. Chris
