Hello,
Its a 2 cycle Tecumseh engine. My question is what is the right plug for this engine.
It has a 4 cycle plug on it now, j19LM.
Anyone know the right plug for this application.
The model # is 1060-0600.
S.N. 120768.
Thanks.................Guido.

Did you take a look in the Champion spark plug catalog? There's a section for OPE/marine, etc..

Hello Bob,
No i did not get a chance. I did verify that will start. It has old gas mix, and the wrong plug in it, but it fired up with a squirt of gas in the carb.
Guido.

WHAT makes you think it's the wrong sparkplug? I'm 20+ miles away from my Champion catalog, but a quick GOOGLE search turned up the site below, which DOESN'T list your exact engine, but DOES list a J19LM for another Tech vertical 2-cycle engine, so it MAY be correct for your's, as well.

Champion used to make plugs specific for two-stroke-cycle use. They all had numbers that ended with "J" indicating a special two-stroke electrode end.

At some point, to cut down the number of different plugs, they made things more generic.

At one time, all Champion two-stroke 14 mm plugs were: J6J, J7J, J8J, J11J, and J12J.

The J17LM and J19LM were generic "lawn mower" plugs. That's what the "LM" stands for.

The J19LM is around the same reach and heat range as the J8, CJ8, J8J, J11J, and CJ8Y.

Any of them will work fine in your engine. Champion listed J17LM and J19LM as both being fine for Tecumseh two-stroke, along with CJ-8.

I had a J19L in my Mantis tiller. It wouldn't start this spring so I installed a J6 and it started. Hal

2 strokes can be sensitive to heat range of plug, just about any plug that doesn't hit the piston will fire/run but you kinda have to keep track of color of the plug after its been running a bit

plug s/b running at tan or light brown color with fresh gas and proper amount of oil, plug running white in a 2 stroker can melt pistons under extreme use, I bot too many pistons in my dirt bike days

some of the rugged 2 strokes can take a lot of abuse and that one looks pretty rugged

Hello,
I have to look and see what i have in my plugs box. I like the the cj8y choice, as i recall now.
I used the the LM plugs only on 4 cycles. The J19LM was usually what i used for a 5 h.p. B&S The J17LM used for the smaller then 5 H.P. engines.
Thanks to all..........Guido.

hello bob,
I have never used that plug for a 2 cycle engine.
If it is listed as a 2 cycle plug it maybe.
But the J19LM was used on 5 H.P. engines and i never seen or used it for any 2 cycle engine.
My limited experience with the 2 cycle small engine is just that. I'm still learning.
I'll tune the think up and see what the plug will do.
Guido.

a Champion spark lug of that era made for a 2 cycle would have as you said a "J" on the end of the number. The "J" meant that the electrode only went halfway across the center electrode to help keep carbon fouling down. This short electrode could also cause hole burning in pistons if too run lean. There was another 2 cycle plug we used with methanol in some 2 strokes racing go karts and boat engines that were designated as "K" series with an internal electrode. these were awfully quick to burn a piston in a heartbeat if ran too lean.

Super, did you ever notice that whenever the bike seemed real fast, it was not long til she melted a piston? LOL.. Lean mixture gave a lot of power, but not for long..

Hello jdemaris,
I agree i will try a cj8, which i have in my stock.
I just had a chance to look at the thing, and the fuel filter is bad. The first thing i'm going to to is change it and use the cj8 plug.
Thanks.......................Guido.
