2 farmall M's together

Does anyone have information on putting 2 farmall M"s together? One in front of the other with both front ends removed to basically make a articulating tractor. I have seen pictures of these tractors and was interested in learning more about them or possibly putting a unit together. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,

I don't think they crafted too many of those with the front tractor having no front end. It was easier and a lot more economical to just leave the front end on the front tractor and just drive it from the front.

In the mid 60's my uncle & his dad had two set up's of two m's. They had a heavy hitch on the front one and a Ibeam that ran all the way under the other one with front end removed. They pulled a 5-16 pull type plows with them.

It was common to see tractor built like that down in Mississippi years ago. They used them a lot in the rice fields because of all the mud. Can't tell you how they did it but thats also been about 35 years ago that I was living down there

There was man in Canada that made akit? for any make of tractor and sold a lot of them I guess. His make took both front ends off and had adaptersfor the throttle and clutch. They show them on TV every once in a while.

Dad says that when he started farming he used Cockshutt 40s. Eventually he sold them (he had 2) to a guy that wanted the rear ends for a tractor pull because the bull gears in a 40 are particularly wide. Said the guy lives up by Spencer somewhere. He was gonna build an articulate out of 'em.

Try going to Farm Show and search for tractors hooked together. Several years ago, they had an article with several pictures. Even had a 400 IH and 2 Case [DC's?]hooked together. Chris

My dad had same set up wiht 2 super M's, Ibelieve that there is the frame for this set up still at my cousin's kj

I agree with RobMD. The issue is control of the second tractor. Shifting, throttle, clutch and the servos needed to make it work. There are tripple articulated tractors. The tractors must also pivot to a 20 degree angle with, for instance, one wheel up on a one foot high stump with the other three still on the ground.
We pulled a heavy grader in clay with two Ms. hooked together (simple removal of the lower bolster and a frame to hitch it to the reinforced U drawbar of the front M. We used two drivers just to get a job done without drastic handling issues. We also (with little success) put a platform on the front of a SH to push a M with picker through mud. The weight of the platform and H on the rear of the picker was worse than a wagon. JimN

Ihave seen several Farmall M set ups as a tandem Unit but the one I know best was my Dads MM UB w a U behind pulling a 5 bottom Oliver Plow. He had a throttle lever and a Hand Clutch Lever to control the U and the Hyd. lift ran off the UB. When I went Farming using Allis Chalmers Tractors he would sneak around and try to figure out how to hook my WD45 up with my D17 but I fooled him , I bought a D21 off a Factory Farm, cleaned it up and went plowing with an AC mounted 5 /16" Plow. He was retired by then and once he got to run the 21 I could not keep him off it.
