Did J.D. make a 294 2 row? Neighbor has a 2 row we want to get a book for so we can fix it up. Seed boxes are shaped like a 494 (tea cup shaped) J.D. dealer says he can reference to 494, but not to a 294. Any help would be great. Thanks , Gary

Tim,nj it sure is as prof. job if they did, this thing sure looks factory done. The tongue even looks to scale, however you could be right. Thanks again, Gary

Wengers has a 290 for sale at their website.

I posted this on another forum, that here we have 246 JD planters to fit IH and Ford tractors. The barn doors are 10 to 12 feet wide, a 2 row planter fits nicely in the barn corner and is out of the way till next spring.

Never made a 2 row 294, has to be a cut down unit. Or it is a 290 and the seed boxes are the same for both the 290 and 494, 246 & 490 & 494A & 12XX series plate planters are all the same. boxes are all the same just the fertilizer boxes are different and a good welder could fabricate a mount to replace the small rusted out 290 fertilizer boxes with one larger one from a 494 planter. 290 was avaible with either a clutch lift or a very scarce hydrolic lift but the 494 was only hydrolick lift.

Leroy, my neighbor had a 494 (not a 490) that had a clutch lift on it. They pulled it with an F30 (no hydraulics, of course) back in the 50s, as the new Super M was the tillage tractor and they didn't think the C could do it. I don't know if it was factory or somebody did a really good fabricating job.
