2010 JD transmission problem

My range change lever on the side of the transmission won't go into the low range. I've disconnected all the linkage and have confirmed the problem isn't in the shifting cluster in the dash.
Tractor is old and high hours.
What can I look for from the top? I'm not sure the tractor is worth splitting and rebuilding the transmission.

I was unaware any trans controls were on the left side of a 2010. All repairs this day and age are expensive.

What is the serial #. Is this a construction version of the 2010 ag tractor ? My 1962 would jump out of neutral and rattle like crazy while i was operating backhoe. Pull trany cover , top front left should be 2 gears together on a shaft. The brass bearing may be worn out, mine was. 10 yr ago, brass was available only with new gears, about $400, I took gear and shaft to a local machine shop, fix cost $80. If not the same you should still be able to follow the shaft from out side to see what may be wrong. Could be simple or not. All repairs are costly how much U are willing to spend ?
