2010 problem

Just purchased a 2010 gas tractor,it starts but only
runs at maybe 400rpm. Cant seem to change speed no
matter what i do. have good spark and fuel.
Compression is about 120 any ideas? thanks.

2010 gasoline/lp's are far better to own than a 2010 diesel. I would check linkage from throttle to governor to carb. If that is good remove air cleaner pipe on carburetor and see if butterfly in carb moves. Governor would also be a place to check.

Have you tried unhooking the air cleaner hose?

I agree with removing the air cleaner hose to make sure she is getting air. Also, check that the carburetor throttle plate is opening correctly, not inhibited by a mis-set governor or binding linkage.....

the 2010 may not be the best tractor but it sure ant the worest eather. if it wont pick up rpm past 400 you probly need to rebuild the carb i know you can get rebuild kit through external_link or most any tsc or even the deere dealer if you want to pay arm and leg. like i say it might not be deers best but it not there worest any way never could figer out why b&d always has to slap a guy around when he ask a simple guestion my feeling is if you cant answer the question then dont be bad mouthing the guy, now if he ask for info then go for it, i didn;t see where andy ask if it was a good or bad and i am sure he has seen all your bad mouthing of the 2010. or mabe you were just having a bad day or it just makes you feel good to be a

JD 2840 will give a 2010D a good run for worst tractor if you can get it started.

Some 2010s were good. Dad bought ours new and it has never missed a beat. It will start immediately no matter how cold.

Check all linkages between throttle lever, carb and governor. Something may be binding if all else is good.

There's an old saying "A good 2010 couldn't be broken and a bad 2010 couldn't be repaired".

Was your Dad's 2010 gasoline or diesel? Diesels gave 2010's the bad reputation but their hyd's and lack of brakes didn't help them. The inside mechanism of the rockshaft reminds me of an erector set(some technicians referred to the inside hyd mechanism linkage as "chicken legs"..

come on now. 2840 aint TOO a bad tractor. never have trouble with ours
