I have a payloader with 24 volt system, now has 4 - 6 volt batteries in series and I need new batterys. should i stay the same , or 2 big 12 volt or 3 - 8 volt batteries? Has anyone used 3 - 8 volts and how did they hold up....thanks

FORGET the 3 8 volts- you will not have enough amperage.

In series wiring, you add the VOLTS and keep the amps the same. IN parallel wiring, you add the AMPS and keep volts the same.

You obviously have the series wiring. Myself, I would run two of the biggest danged 12 volt batteries in series to keep most of your original wiring.

I know of a gentleman who put 4 regular sized 12 volt batteries in a series-parallel configuration, which gave the 24 volts in series with the other two batteries giving twice the amount of amps in parallel to those batteries. It worked well, but the wiring was a mess!!

Stick with the huge 12 volts in series. lol.

I would go with 2 large 12V with each having hot and ground cables directly to the starter. Less Jumper connections to give trouble and extra cables for less voltage drop between starter and battery.

I did that on my semi tractor, replacing four 6V with 2 twelve volt, less trouble and cranks better.
