Hello TC, welcome to YT! Need more info, have you had this tractor a while and it ran fine, then started doing this? Have you done anything in terms of troubleshooting or trying to repair the problem? Just so we're on the same page the tractor in the link it what you have? IH 284 on Tratordata I think it is interesting you call it a Farmall, not much Farmall in that Japanese built tractor.

sorry for lack of info tractor was given to me by my father who bought it new. In 2000 he bought another tractor .The 284 sat for a few years and he gave it to me . When I got it ran but would just up and and quit . a new coil fixed that but at same time it was hard to start and when it did it ran rough .and ya had to leave choke out for it to run. been that way for a while and dont need it that often so used it as was. Few weeks ago L found tractor just like it .. Guy i bought it from said it overheated when water pump went out he replaced pump but found head was warped and he didnt want to fix it . I bought it for 800 bucks He also told me he had rebuilt carb.I put it on mine and now its starts easy and does as stated in first post .Its a 1980 284 ih farm all gas mazda motor. like site ya posted Also Ive put in new plugs points cond and wires from kit I got off this site when tractor was given to me .

Okay, sounds like you’re going to have to work on the carb. I have an idea to try, can’t explain it now have to get the yard mowed. Back later, where are you at?

If I am thinking correctly you are probably a little timid about pulling the carb apart, would that be right? My thought is to take out plug 12 on the carb shown in the linked diagram. CNHI IH 284 parts catalog That will drain the bowl and allow you access to number 20 which I think is the main circuit load jet. I would try to determine what size wire might fit in it to poke in there to make sure it is clear. I would also get some spray carb clean to spray in there. I would also find a tube to direct a blast of air back in there. Don’t seal you blower against the plug opening that may damage the float. I personally would go as far as trying to remove the jet and slide it back in there on a wire, Which is not really true because I would just take the whole top off. One thing about it you have a spare to make a dry run on.
Again, I am surprised you call it a Farmall the name on it is International. I got an idea, but what is H/C? Work as an equipment inspector at an oil refinery here in the twin cities. Before that I was a mechanic for 20 plus years. May age is the number by my user name if you hover over it.

I did heating cooling commercial refrigeration commercial and residential appliances Im 68, dad always called it his farmall and it stuck I guess Will try what you recommend after picking up some spray carb cleaner tomorrow.would ya have any Ideal where to find carb kit 1014333C1 ? not timid about taking apart . just dont like trying something on anything I dont much about. couldnt find a how to for this carb on youtube

Spray Carb cleaner won't do the cleaning. You will need to take it apart and run a wire or small drill bit through the passages to properly clean your carb. McDonald Carb and Ignition is a good place to find a carb kit.

Mark, I agree totally with your bottom line. My thinking was this “rebuilt” carb had sat a while on the unused tractor with the “warped” head. Then possibly some small piece of crud found is way into the jet and just lodged lightly in its opening in the bottom of the carb bowl when he put it back in use. I was also thinking he may have been suffering from the fear of the internal “voodoo” in a carb. Thought I would give him a relatively easy and non-complex fix to try.

I took jet out and cleaned it sprayed in carb cleaner as suggested blew out gently and reinstalled jet . didnt change anything .jet reminded me of metering device used in ac .I do thank all who replied and if ya have any other suggestions I would like to hear them .I checked the link for parts . didnt show they had it 1014333C1 but sent them a email to be sure.

Well I hope you felt it was worth a try. McDonald Carb is usually rated pretty good by folks on here. Web search the number it brings up a lot of options. YT doesn’t show one. You can probably order one through a local auto parts store if you want. When you have it torn down my go to method is the poke any small hole or passage with wire, spray a shot of carb cleaner then blast with compressed air, repeating a time or two.

Technically it's an "International 284" not a "Farmall." IH had stopped using the Farmall brand in 1975, several years before the 284 was produced.

Also being a "Utility" style tractor it wouldn't be a Farmall even if the brand name was still in use. Farmall describes row crop tractors.

Have you checked fuel flow to the carburetor? A bug floating around in the fuel tank, for example, can plug the fuel outlet and prevent adequate fuel flow to the carburetor.

Names can be confusing. We all remember the old Farmalls. Then came the newer IH, now we have a New Farmall.
So his 'newer' IH (Farmall) is to old to be a 'new' Farmall.

Got the rebuild kit at Bates. They was proud of it to 140 bucks shipping and all,McDonald Carb emailed and said they had 1 that might work but were not sure about pump for 59 shipping and all.Taking kit and carb to local tractor guy that came highly recommended said he would clean and rebuild carb for 40 bucks.
