How much does a clutch cost for a 2840. I have found this tractor and the owner said the clutch slips under a heavy load also under clutch housing there is a bad leak???? is the leak major or just o-rings????

the clutch on your 2840 is differant than a clutch in an automobile as hydraulic pressure is used to engage the clutch instead off disengageing it. there is a possibility that the sealing rings
on the throwout bearing is where the leak is and is not holding enough pressure on the clutch
now with that said, what trans do you have
if the prssure plate is ok,a cutch diskmwould cost around $100 the pressure plate parts are available seperately

(quoted from post at 15:09:30 10/06/08) well if i not miss taken the 2840 ues a 12 inch single stage dry type clutch with a release bearing the is controle mechanicaly on open station tractors and with a hy slave cly external in cab models. the leak could be a seal on input shaft from transmission. my bet is a rear engine seal. you well need a specalt tool to install it. cost of clutch hy capacty around 475.00 includes prreasure plate woven disc releas bearing with new greasable carrer and pilot bearing.

I'm sure 2840s leak engine oil into the clutch area same as any other dry clutch tractor. But I have never seen one do it. Maybe someone else is fixin' 'em first.

Pay attention and let me tell you what I have seen, lots of times. When a 2840 shows up with trans oil dripping from the clutch housing, the cause EVERY time is a leaking Hi-Lo drum seal. {This means you get to split the tractor twice} And EVERY time I have seen the Hi-Lo seal leak, it is because of a spun bushing in the clutch housing that supports the Hi-Lo assembly. This causes $$$ damage to the Hi-Lo and the clutch housing. The repair usually requires J-B weld or some other miracle fix because of the cost to fix it right. {It usually works} Sometimes the bushing failed because of internal oil leakage elsewhere in the clutch housing. Sometimes the bushing fails because a small piece of old gasket or other junk is plugging an oil restrictor oriface that some genius engineer decided it had to have.

To make a long story short, No way would I pay much more than salvage value for this tractor
