After having no luck locating an intermittent short that sometimes drains my battery between tractor uses I have decided to put a disconnect switch in. I want to disconnect power to the keyswitch & fuse panel. Can someone direct me as to the best place to put a disconnect swith in...other than on the battery poitive or negative (because of the large amperage needed for the starter)? I do know that the starter is not the cause of the battery drainage.

follow the wiring from the fuse block till it hits a power feed. OR.. follow the power cable from the battery.. On many models it goes right to the start solenoid, and all accy power also attaches there as well.

If I were you I'd put the disconnect on the negative battery cable. It'll cost you a bit more for the heavy switch but is well worth your time. Those cables were known to chafe in behind the battery tray. Having a ground disconnect switch in there to shut things off quickly would be a bonus...

Could be the battery sometimes they will do that if they set a while between use. Is the battery old or new.
