44 2N 12 V conversion. Got done brushhoggin and shut the tractor off - had an after thought and tried to restart - nothing - not a sound. Waited a little while and tried again and got a slow growl. So I suspect my alternator ain't working. (battery slowing bringing it self back up. I am going to take it to O'riellys and have it tested - Question - If'n they say it is bad, are there any specifics I need to know as far as a replacement. This one is a Delco-Remy but I got the tractor this way so I have no idea what vehicle this alternator came off of.
Thanks!

I think I would do so more diagnostics before jumping to that conclusion and the trouble of taking the alternator off. It could very well just be your battery or even corroded terminals. First I would charge the battery back up and start the tractor. Once its started, with a volt meter check the voltage coming out of the alternator. You can do this at the alternator or at the battery itself considering your terminals and cable are clean and conducting well.
One thing to consider however, after you charge the battery fully, the alternator will not put out a charge untill needed thanks to the voltage regulator ( if working properly) . So play with it a little, if you have lights you can drain some voltage with those. Your alternator should be putting out just over 14 volts if working properly. If it is, then check your battery while the tractor is running and you should have that same voltage there as well. Let us know!

As far as the alternator goes in case you do need to replace it....I can wager it came in the 12 volt conversion kit. I believe it is just a GM alternator and your local auto parts store can match it.

kornfused,Have them check your old one and if its bad they have one.Like a 74 chevy pickup 63 amp will work great.29.99 plus your old core at O'rileys
