2n and finishing mower

Does anybody mow their yard with a finish mower behind a 2N? If so what size and do you have any problems with lack of power?

I have a 6 foot Woods finish mower I just picked up for behind my NAA. It seems to not require much power at all and is pretty quiet. I see no reason a 2n would not be able to power it.

I have an 8N and a 5 foot woods deck. Works good. According to tractor data the 8 is just about the same HP as the 2. In heavy grass I'd like to have about 5 more ponies but if I don't let it get ahead of me it works great and I can mow in 2nd. If not after the 1st pass I take less than a full cut and run in first.

6' First Choice rear discharge. Whatever you get insist on rear discharge..cuts better, dischasrges better. I use the 6 footer behind my Kubota L1500 (17 or 19 hp)No problem whatsoever unless really heavy, deep byhalia grass.

I use a 6 foot "Value Leader" Chinese finish mower behind my 2N. My tractor is a little tired, and it pulls the big mower just fine. I have cut grass over 4" tall with it in first gear. If you are having problems with lack of power, you can just not cut the full width each pass after you have made a starting round. You can actually hold the mower off the guide wheels for the first pass if you keep working the "touch" control handle or have a Zane "Thang" position control modification. After that pass, make a second one with the wheels touching and then proceed to take partial cuts till you finish.

I found that good blades are a must. I replaced the original lightweight blades with a set of Caroni blades and am very satisfied.

I mow tall grass in first gear. For weekly lawn upkeep, it works fine in second gear. I have not tried third gear, since I have too many trees, hills, and tight corners for that.

I would recommend a 6-foot (72") finish mower for lawn care behind a 2N.

Traded away my 9N, and the 8N's and NAA's are busy
with other jobs. So, the 46 2N got the finish mowing duties this year.
5 foot FarmPro finish mower, stays hooked to it all summer.
Works fine, no problems at all.

I mow 5 acres with an 8n and a 72 inch Farm Star rear discharge finish mower. I does a great job. If blades are sharp, I can mow in 3rd gear.
I highly recommend a rear discharge so it doesn't look like you are cutting hay, and an overiding clutch on your PTO shaft so the momentem of the mower doesn't push the tractor.
I did add a front scalp wheel to the mower so I don't scalp the grass when around ditches.

Been mowing 15 years with my 2N and 6' King Kutter side discharge finish mower. I'm very happy with both, I have Argentine Bahia and when we get rain it grows extremely fast and tough as heck. I prefer the side discharge as it spreads clippings just fine plus it doubles as a blower to clean the road and drive when done mowing.

if your N is in average condition, it should pull a 6' finish mower. as with all things.. if you let your grass grow out of control.. it will be hard on the mower and N.
