Good morning I have a 47 2n that needs
new sleeves and pistons.im a little
confused about the thin wall and thick
wall sleeves. Is there certain years
that use the thin wall or thick wall?
I've rebuilt several farmall and a
couple of allis's but this is my first
ford. Thanks for your time.

good morning, pigpen. welcome:)

my advice would be to pull a sleeve and see what it currently has. you can't necessarily know in advance. my 47 2N (serial number and casting dates agree) had the .090" sleeves (the thin ones are .040"), and that's what i bought to replace them with. i won't swear they even make the thin ones anymore.

you're going to need a sleeve puller for this job. i'd start there.

Thin was orignal, Not shure when they changed to thick wall but they are a lot better. Thin are very thin tin type of material and do not last, thick are a cast material and do last. A lot of thin wall have been bored over the years to use the thick wall cast sleves so any could have the thick wall but not all could have the thin wall. Still gettind a 41(N together since 2004. I got the thin wall at that time. Back in the 80.s the 44 2N was rebuilt and bored for the cast sleve and still good. Only one you would know has thick wall is later 8N that came from factory with. When my 41 the thin wall came out in pieces being broken from top to bottom.
