2n hydralic pump bad knocking sound.

i have a 1945 2n and the lift works but is a little weak and bounces and leaks down with the clutch in. i just changed the gear oil in it last year. its a bout 20 - 30 degs. here and i have been plowing snow with it. but when i pick up the scrapper blade. it starts knocking real loudly like there is a little elf clinking a hammer where my hydro. pump is. just wondering if a good cleaning out could solve my problems... thanks.

Knocking usually means water is exploding into steam. bad news

5600......you got WATER in yer HYDRAULIC fluid. You need to change yer hydraulic pump fluid. Simple, eh? ......Dell

"Knocking" is normal in N'S and is due to wear in the pump, between the eccentric and fowlers and gets worse with years and warm oil not having the same cushing effect of cold oil. My 9N hammers when lifting and even more so with the sehrman transmission in high range. Eventually it needs to be rebuilt, until then I "KNOW ITS WORKING WHEN ITS HAMMERING. IT has new JD "FORD approve" Hy-grade oil. Water in the oil changes its "Viscosity and lubricating ability" but has nothing to "Do about steam"
