if i need to jump my 1945 2N do i hook up the cables normal, being +cable to +post and -cable to -post ? reason i ask is the tractor cables hook up +cable to -post and -cable to +post.

You ALWAYS match "jumper cable" or charger polarity TO THE BATTERY... that is what matters, NOT how the chassis ground cable is hooked up!

If the tractor is sill "as-original" 6-Volt, DO NOT "jump" it directly to the battery from a 12-Volt battery!!!!!

You CAN start it by "jumping" direct to the starter, leaving the battery and ignition system out of the 12-Volt circuit.

When charging a 6 volt positive ground battery you still match + to + and - to -. The ground polarity does not matter. Just match polarity on the battery.

When jump starting the 6 volt positive ground tractor with 12 volts, connect the 12 volts directly one cable to the starter post and the other cable to some ground on the tractor (i use a foot peg). Be sure that the tractor is in neutral so that we do not hear from your next of kin that it ran over you. Do NOT hit the starter button so as to keep the 12 volts outa your generator/regulator/battery/ignition. Turn on your ignition switch.
Connect one side of your 12 volt jumper cable to the post on the starter and the other post to ground. Polarity does not matter. Starter will spin the same direction with either polarity.
You will need enuf current in your 6 volt battery to run the ignition.
