2N oil in radiator

My neighbor broke his front hydraulic pump drive shaft, in draining the radiator ato fix it, I got 1/4 - 1/2 cup of black engine oil (not the frosty malt stuff from a bad head or gasket). It uses a lot of oil and smokes pretty bad but runs actually quite nice. No coolent in oil pan, compression was 105,85,65,80 and none of the plugs looked washed. Is it possible he has a crack or rust hole from the oil galley to the water jacket? That is the only place I can think of where the oil pressure would be higher than the coolent pressure when it's running but opposite when it is shut off. thanks in advance.

kevin........you write......."in draining the radiator ato fix it, I got 1/4 - 1/2 cup of black engine oil".......no you didn't. You gott some black panther pizzz. Long time ago, you hadda add water pump lube to regular radiator water. Now days, green anti-freeze includes water pump lube. .......Dell

The owner tells me he flushed the cooling system last fall, filled it with new antifreeze and no additional pump lube. He went on to say that the reason he flushed it was at that time it had a half gallon of engine oil in the radiator. He doesn't run it in the winter, so he probably only has a few hours on the new antifreeze, I'd say the longer he runs it the more engine oil will end up in the coolent.

Sounds like the block may be cracked......time to take it apart and look it over and maybe pressure test either coolant or oil system to find out if it is fixable or if a replacement block or engine is needed.

I had the same issue, turned out to be a cracked block. It had several cracks at number 3 & 4.
They do not add the much oil to the antifreeze for corrosion protection/pump lubrication.
