2N-Shredder will not raise

1946 2N hydrolic lever will not lift shredder and lever is not free moving. When you move the lever up it jumps back to middle. What might be the problem. Is there a hydrolic filter?

Very likely that the control valve is stuck..Remove side cover where dipstick is located..look to see if valve is moving in and out when you raise and lower the lever--if it is not moving, try pushing/pulling on the control valve at the end of the rod that runs down to the control valve as you move the lever up or down..some stick and once freed up may never stick again....How does fluid look? Has it been changed? Contamination(water etc) can cause the CV to stick..Not going to write a book like some will but this is a starting point..Let us know what you find..

Yep.

Probably time to drop the pump & give it a good cleaning.

But, before you do that......

Remove an inspection plate & make sure the touch control lever is actually moving the control rod.

And that the control rod is still attached to the pump.

If you're lucky...as in lottery winning lucky...it could be the friction disc.

Has new fluid. Been flushed because some water got in around old boot. will look at tractor tomorrow. thanks

as this is a 2n you are talking about. the control rod the other guys are referencing will look like a split fork and attach to a 'T' shaped stem. it should move in and out as you run the 3pt leve up and down.

the fact it slips to the middle means the cork friction disc is loose or gone.

I suppose you are aware that lots of water can get in around the big spring behind the seat..If left outside that area needs covered -- a good fitting shifter boot will take care of the shift but a tarp or something similar will be needed to cover the spring area good..

I found that one of those two wheeled "V" shaped garden carts when flipped over fits in under the seat nicely to cover up that spring. :mrgreen:

Do I need to drain Hydrolic fluid before taking cover from around dip stick to look inside? Didn't know how high the fluid level went

The fluid should be no higher than the bottom bolt in that round cover. If anything comes out of that hole, it is fluid that was overfilled.
