Stop bickering, children!

I can count on one hand the number of times i have ate beef in the last 20 years. My diet consist mainly of venison with some occasional pork and chicken thrown in if i can find it cheap or discounted.

Dang...this sort of childish stuff makes me miss 5th grade...... I could have sworn we were all decades past that 😔
Wow, you started this, you call people that don't agree with you a cult, you wear your religion on your sleeve, you have posted a while ago about how many churches you have left because of turmoil, now you start with a post that is differently political, then put down anyone that disagrees with you a 5th grader, I think the churches got sick of your bs, maybe you should practice what you preach and pray for your god NASCAR

With all of your business savvy and financial genius, I have to ask, have you gone bankrupt five times too? How can you possibly think this stunt for support in November will ever lead to an increase in US production? Do you honestly believe we're going to hemmorage money instead of cashing out and living off what we've banked in the last six years?

Bon appatite when they have to start cutting this grass fed garbage in to steak instead of just throwing it in the grinder to blend with our grain fed.
Randy, don't get me wrong, I am not defending any of our fearless leaders in either party. I am trying to help the beef industry by pointing out that farmers and ranchers need to stop for a moment and read the room.

Farmers are not the only people in this country hurting bad right now. Nearly person and every business is facing the same rising prices and uncertainties that farmers are, only most people and small businesses don't have as nearly as large a nest egg as most farmers do.

Our leaders are desperate to create the appearance that they are doing something, anything, to curb high grocery prices. If farmers and ranchers squawk about beef imports this time around they might get throw under the bus and take the full blame for those record high beef prices. That could be a bigger fiasco for the industry than mad cow disease. We all remember back in the 1970s when beef was cheaper than pork. This might be a good time to take our lumps in the short term by accepting beef imports to survive in the long term.

I can remember when the market broke loose. We took a mixed load in, dropped them off, and headed back home.

I got the check on Wednseday. I thought they had made a mistake. Talked with K'kins about whether to cash the check.........it was that high.

I checked markets, I was astounded. Suddenly a cow/calf operation ceased being doggone near a hobby, prices being what they were..........to a fair return business.

I expect now we're gonna see it get back to what it was...............................Barely hanging on.

Price on the hoof, around the current 400/cwt is not an unfair price............considering the capital investment it takes to bring those animals to market. Land, equipment, labor...........not to mention the leverage involved if you're in the position of having to keep an active credit line to fund operations.

Not one soul here would argue about a large return in an investment in equities..................without doing a doggone thing to earn it. But, when it comes to livestock, with the huge inherent risks involved....................God forbid a guy makes money for his efforts.

This has been the perfect storm. Increased demand, drought selloffs in the early 2010's, and later. Screw worm worries.

I had to purchase rolling stock, bring it to roadworthiness, and haul hay in from 2 states away during the 2011/2012 drought. I took a risk, and I've been rewarded. But, in the interim years, we had it rough. We did the same thing as a stock investor................we held.

I don't see this holding..............same as the stock market. Everything is cyclical. It's the buy, and hold, crowd that makes it in the long run.........or goes broke. Plenty of guys had to liquidate their herds before the bull market started.

Talk to your retailer if you're upset about beef prices.

Let's talk oil............................

It doesn't cost one cent more to bring crude out of the ground than it did 6 months ago. The increase in price is due to market risk. Risk drives price. It's the way it is, and always has been.

They're screaming about the profit the majors are making...........but I didn't hear a peep when oil was down to 30/bbl .

Equities, and commodities, are risk assets. You're paid for the amount of risk you're willing to take on. Beef is a commodity.

Now we have a level playing field..................which we didn't prior..................

The big boys had it good for a long time.......times are a changin'

I think what galls people is the lack of control over their financial well being. Put in the investment, and the labor.........................only to depend on the CME to determine what your efforts are worth. Some guy in a 3pc suit determines what your efforts are worth. So...........you search for someone to blame......unless you have a grasp of the market. The market is your enemy, not other things. It's a damn shame.

And.......markets can be fiddled with.
