300,000 tons

Perfect timing, too. A lot of calves and cattle are sold in the Fall. Even more will be sold here in Virginia with the drought we are having, pastures drying up, and no Fall hay to cut.
Getting back into the business is quite difficult these days too. Increasing a herd by standard breeding practices can take 7 years or more. Plus, seed bulls are high dollar.

Good time to ask where your ground beef is coming from 🤬. And Thursday would have been a great day to sell your cattle! 🧐😬🤬. " No one loves farmers and ranchers more". We don't even own cattle anymore and this makes me angry 😡.
would another concern not be the origin of the beef and what is in it ? ie hormones, medications ? some thing I sure think about when looking at meat products my.02 added

With prices what they are/were, it is great if you have the cows, but if you need to build heard size it has gotten expensive.
Correct! Two sides to every farmers market problems. Around here in N W Ohio many farmers build calf barns to start babby calves to feed out. One larger cattle farmer start 2000 head at a time. Many of the smaller farmers calf barns are now empty beacuse of the cost of day old calves.

Public sentiment about brands, businesses, and products can change in an instant, hurting demand, decimating sales, slashing profits and putting smaller producers out of business. Politicians of any party will always read the room and shift to follow the public sentiment:
Busch Light beer;
data centers;
Harley Davidson motorcycles;
motorcycles in general;
Kentucky Bourbon;
Years after the supply of eggs has recovered, egg sales have not recovered, so fewer egg producers are needed.

The beef industry has spend a lot of time and money building it's brand: Beef - It's what's for dinner., Angus Beef, etc. don't let that image get lost to overpricing. Consumers are leaving 70 percent lean hamburger ( pink slime ) on the store shelf at $8 per pound. $20 per pound T-bone steaks might as well be Wasabi steak when people are having trouble paying their monthly bills. Beef packing plants are closing in Illinois, Nebraska and Utah as both the US supply and the US demand for beef are expected to be lower in the future. IMHO, this is a very poor time for the beef industry to continue to restrict packaged beef imports.

There are plenty of sites that thrive on political arguments. This place is not one of them and the reason I have enjoyed it here.
Why spew all your venom here, of all places? Best change the name to grandpa Hate. :(
Gee ,I would but my last name is Love. I posted about beef, other wonderful , kind, loving people started slinging crap. Like the president,I sling crap back. Unfortunately folks can dish it out ,not take it. 😂

Looks like Holstein "Bull" Calf rejects....that's how I got in the beef/vs goat business on my farm when I started out trying to farm having been a city boy all my life to that point.....Bull Holsteins were low dollar protein and money makers because the dairyman needed a calf to get a lactating cow and a bull couldn't be raised to produce milk.....one thing I learned bringing them up to slaughterable age, The head needs to be lower than the gut when bottle feeding since mama's spigot was down there and it kept the calf from inhaling the milk, getting it into its lungs rather than its stomach and good bye calf....learned that rule early on.

Same out here. Getting drier. Quite a bit of hay put up. But why should I try to keep feeding them to make replacements for, or keep on trying... It's a big media market mover , that's what it is....

You all watch yet..... The Pro Farmer crop scout tour was this past week. Very educational, thought out process.. neat to follow along... Their results?????

US corn yield average could be 20 bu./ Acre LESS than USDA projections. Soybeans are less too.... So do the math and get ready for larger groceries bills again.

Hey Mr. Love, I've seen a couple of your posts about your grandchildren & was wondering if your son or sons have taken advantage of the $1,000 nnalert accounts.....officially a 530A IRA? My grandson signed up my great grandson a couple weeks ago. A great start to a college fund. You can find the details online.....easy to do. (y)

I often wonder how these "kind, loving", plus I'll add self proclaimed Christian, people can support and approve the actions of the current administration when it's painfully obvious to anyone with their eyes open that it is anything but kind, loving and Christian.

The logical assumption therefore is that these "kind, loving" and Christian people are in fact cut from the same cloth as members of the current administration. A scum covered cloth.

Bald faced liars, each and everyone.

The easiest person to fool is yourself.
