3000 PTO

I have a 1967 3000 that the pto keeps jumping out of gear.I have replaced the ball and spring,the pto sleeve,seal and beraing.It still will only stay engauged for a couple of minutes while bushhogging and I have to stop and re engauge.I have been using a bungi strap to hold it in but that is kind of aggravating.Any ideas?Thanks.

I had one that did the same thing. Turned out that the lever from shift arm was bent just enough to let ball slip out of detent. Could hardly tell it by looking. Bought a new one and it fixed the problem.

did you check the rear bearing housing to make sure the cir-clip is in place to keep the pto shaft from moving in and out as the shredder turns behind the tractor or is rasied up and down, thus pushing in and out on the pto shaft. if you can grab the shaft and push it in and out, that will be your problem as this will disengage it every time.
