Thanks for all of the great help you fellas have provided.

The plugs are Champions---are those the recommended ones or are others better.

Have the Alternator on and converted to Negative ground. WAS wondering about eletronic ignition.
Is there better performance with the electronic or is it better to stay with points- condenser etc.
What do you guys have to say????

I put electronic ignition in mine about 5 years ago. seems to always start better and havent had any ignition problems yet, money well spent would do it again in a heartbeat. hope this helps Bob.

Have you changed the coil polarity to match the battery polarity? That affects spark. AC or Motorcraft plugs are significantly better than modern Champion plugs.

I'm not a fan of electronic ignition as an add on. Its not as expensive to replace points once in a while (been ten years since I put them in my gas 4020) than an electronic ignition once in a decade. And I can afford to have spare points and condenser, but breaking an electronic ignition without a $100 spare on hand puts my tractor out o commission for a week. Hay in Iowa can't wait that long because the rain won't wait.

The coil polarity needs to match the battery polarity. So now the + coil primary terminal should come from the ignition switch. For positive ground that lead went to the points. Ignition is a bit better with the correct coil polarity.
