3010 vs 2510

Which is best, both gas engines, a 3010 JD or 2510 JD. Both sound machines and synchro drive.

3010 has a little more HP , higher torc Waterloo engine ,slightly more dependable . 2510 is newer has diff-lock, much better PTO ,hyd.

2510 was made 66-67-68, so is newer than the 3010. The 2510 is a good tractor except the original 4 cyl. hyd. pump could be a problem. My 69 2520 even had that pump. I put a 3020-4020 pump in it. My 2520 diesel has enough more power than the old 2510 gas that the bigger hyd. pump doesn't bother it.

3010 has problem prone PTO, power is close to the same the 2510 hasn't had as many birthdays, I would choose the 2510..

As previously stated, the 2510 wins. Semi rare tractor too, worth worth extra bucks to collectors as well.

I just went through the engines on two for the same guy, he is going to send them to a paint shop, I re-sealed the pumps ,steer valves ,load shafts all the little oil leaks,took some time, they were both diesels, he wanted all that stuff taken care of 'before' the paint job,,good thinking,,he's going to show them, he's got a 4520 to send down next, fixing up several to show

go with the 3010 it's good tractor, we had on our farm.

Well I guess it might depend what you are going to do with it. If you were going to start farming and needed a tractor to do some tillage I would say the 3010 might be your best bet.
I have both and I really like the engine in the 2510. Both drive nice and work well for what I do. The 2510 is lighter and has most of the improvments that the 3020 got when it replaced the 3010.
The 3010 has some more beef built in and will outpull the 2510 while still being able to do all the little things the 2510 will do.
If I could have only one it would be the 2510.

I had both of them. The 2510 wins hands up in my book. It would run circles around the 3010. More snap and more guts and a newer tractor. Still have the 2510. The 3010 is gone.

No contest 2510, hands down on engine design. Deere schooled on both.

2510 as you can do many unseen upgrades to it from 2520 engine parts to the large hyd pump too.

I have had both. The 2510D is handy as a loader tractor or doing field work and as someone pointed out more valuable because they didn't make alot of them. Of course that means you can get into a 3010 much cheaper and it is a good tractor just not as new or developed as the 2510... in my opinion.
