301A Engine Oil

Need to change engine oil in my 301A. Manual says to use 30 wt above freezing. I would like to use 15-40. Am I being stupid?
 
no ive run 15-40 rotella in mine since ive had it no problems, in fact i buy it by the 5 gal buckets and use it in everything from a old chevy gaser to a kenworth truck
