3020 wiring

Someone mistakenly put two 12 volt batteries in my 3020 diesel (side console) rather than 6 volt batteries. Since they are wired in series, I've got 24 volts on a 12 volt system. Does anyone know how to wire them in parallel or should I just use one 12 volt battery at a time (probably would have less amps than two 6 volts)?

An easy fix; Just run ground straps from the negative terminals of each battery to bolts on top on the transmission housing and run another cable from the positive battery terminal that used to go to the other battery now to the starter. This will be a 60 to 75 inch long cable that won't be cheap. You will end up with two positive cables to the starter lug and two negative cables to ground.

To wire two batterys in paralell, simply effectively bond/cable one + post to the other + post and one - post to the other - post. Then one of the unions goes to frame ground while the other union goes to starter/solenoid, with which union ( + or - ), determined by if its Pos or Neg ground.........

You say its a 12 volt system, YOU SURE OF THAT?? If it were 24 volt, the two 12 volt batterys would have been in series!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALSO if its indeed 12 volts as you say and uses a genertor versus an alternator, I think it was still originally POSITIVE GROUNDED which means if you wanna use two 12 volt batteries in paralell:

A cable could first attach the two - posts together, with another cable ran from either - post to the starter/solenoid. Likewise, a cable would first tie the two + posts together and then one (or both for that matter) has a cable to frame ground. If Neg ground just reverse that, i.e. the two negatives tie to frame ground while the positives go to starter/solenoid

MAKE SURE IF ITS POS OR NEG GROUND AND IF ITS 12 OR 24 VOLTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all side console 20 serie were 12 volt neg ground. just ground both neg post to frame and tke pos from one battery to other pos on battery then up to big post on starter.
