My oil light came on the other day. I realize this is a "dummy light", I assume hooked to oil pressure. I checked the connection, and changed the oil (needed it anyway). Worried about the oil pump. Tractor runs great (no odd sounds) and does not overheat or even run hot. Suggestions??

It is possible to plumb in an oil pressure gauge in place of the switch, I think right rear side of the engine, distributor or diesel pump region. It is possible for the switch to become insensitive so it takes more oil pressure (and not expensive to replace) turn the light out. It is possible in 40 years to have worn the oil pump and bearings so oil pressure is low.

There is an 1/8" pipe plug at every main journal on the right side of the engine, just above the engine rail. Put a gauge in one of the holes to get a master oil pressure reading before you ruin the engine. The long nut that protrudes through the right side rear engine shield is where the oil pressure can be set without taking the pan off.Remove the long nut cover and there is a screwdriver slot under it with a jamb nut on it.
