My 336 baler was getting noisy in the plunger at the end of last season. I pulled the plunger out and the roller on the knife side was shot. It has worn the bolt-in strap on the bottom of the bale chamber that the roller rolls on as the plunger goes back and forth. Is this strap some special hardened steel or would a new strip of mild steel work? I can have one made easily by a local shop. I hate to ask what Deere wants for it,if it"s even available.
Thanks.

Deere made lots and lots of 336 balers. May be able to find the part you need in a salvage yard. A lot of these balers were sold and parted out for as people switched to large round balers.

if you're a hobby farmer, reg steel will work for a while...

a dairy farmer would put high carbon steel in..

dont know what Deere would want, but it will be worth it if you plan on keeping it..

Make sure that there is no rust scale building up between the rail and the chamber that it is bolted to. I have found that usualy when the bairing compleatly shells out it is because rust scale has started to build up between the bolts heaving the rail up causing the plunger bairing to get pinched as it travels back and forth in the chamber. If this is the case you need to air hammer, and grinde the rust out and then prime and paint the surface that the rail bolts to to stop the rust and prevent it from doing it again a year or twofrom now.
