How many thousands can a 336 cylinder block be safely bored out ?

we ran one .60 over for many years back in the 70's/ 80's put about 3000 hrs on it that way working it on the farm. I still have the pistons but we have since restored it and taken it back to standard

should've added that we still are using the same blocks but we have sleeved them bac to standard bore

If gas or LP, 1/8" + .060 (4.81 bore). Thats .185 total. I have heard of guys running 4.875, but that's sketchy.

If it's diesel, stick to 4.75 bore (.125 total). That extra diesel head stud hole gets pretty close to the edge of the bore beyond that. Sometimes it will crack between the threaded hole and the cylinder.

Will a 4.75 diesel piston work in a gas engine with the orginal gas rods ?

Moline made a 4.75" piston at one time they called it a "big power kit" I believe. They are impossible to find. The biggest factory overbore is .060". If you want bigger, you're having them made or try to find one, that with a little machine shop creativity, you can make work.

I believe the compression height would be too high and the pin diameter too large.
