38 Jd A Puller competitive build...

Looking for 50-55hp, Thinking of going 5.75 by 7 with high compression...Open to other suggestions, have heard denglers make a cam that is the BEST...is this true? Have a berry cam now, would consider selling it, cleared for 9.25 crank already. Thanks for any tips

If you are stroking it, GO BIGGER...!!!

7" don't sound like much..go as long a stroke as you care to fit in there...you only want to buy ONE crank..!!

I have seen several with spark-plugs hidden in the head..by the frame-rail..

Have you looked into doing this..?? The original plugs are then just "Dummies"..

Ron..

A power block bored to 6.125" with some porting work on manifold and head will get you the 50-55 horsepower. If you can afford the stroker crank, that is the way to go, more torque which is what you really want for those tuff pulling tracks. Stroker Crank is the best bang for the buck.

Your B has more power and weighs less. Did you fall and hit your head?

yes, denglers have the best cam in the nation...They sell a ton of those, and everybody I know loves them..I am good friends with the Family. VERY VERY good people!!!

Ray come on now, I pull transfer and dead boat. I am building an antique pulling tractor, why would that qualify as falling and bumping my head? also I am only stroking it a 1/4 because that is what 329 rods will give me...100 compared to 1000 dollars...If i was building a 4 or 6 mph pace tractor I would go with a big crank.

I already had this A with alot of parts for it and I don't have to put much more then 1200 in it to make it a nice antique class puller

It's your money...

And your B (as is) weighing less, would still whip your $1200 A's butt. I don't get kids these days.

Because..Its still going to be JUST a 50 - 55 hp A. It wont keep up with a tough farmstock M, I have watched quite a few GOOD running "55" hp A's power completely out in 5500..why wast your time. It sounds like your B would be a better reciepient for $$ spent..

I am working on a JD60 to do a little pulling (I know they are heavier and all that but it is what i have). I was thinking a bout a cam also, whould the one from you A fit or do you have the contact infor for Dengler's

I thought you fella's had 4 cranks up at Cadillac going to 7.375", or are those just Jeff's?

I haven't heard from Jeff lately did the cranks ever get done, I have one there also and it is supposed to be done after those 4.

50-55 HP would be plenty for dead weight, and for antique transfer sled. That is where I hope my A is when I get my crank back.

you don't have to stroke your crank or even have a POWER BLOCK to get 50-55 HP out of your A. Wouldn't wast the money on that little of a stroke, you would not be able to tell the diffrence. I had an unstyled 10 or 11 years ago with no stroke and no POWER BLOCK and got a good 52-53 HP.

Yeah, We have 4 up there...It's been 7 months already and I gave him a deadline of Jan 15th to have them done or were going to go get them. Only one is Jeff's. Ones mine, Unc Tom, Grandpas...We have lots of A's they will go in though, If I can get 50 or more without it I will go that route, this one is for the girlfriend as an antique puller, Thats why I'm building it this way Ray so you can stop your bickering :D

Also look at a Case Rod.. (I think its a Case 504 rod) I think also has the 2.75 journal like the Deere, but its wider.. I just can't remember where the bolts are one the case rod.. but if you are just doing offset grind, it won't really matter...
JDGnut

Are you going to use the Mid yr Crank??? give you a hair more to start with..
