4-270 White

There is a low hr. 4-270 White coming on auction,Indiana. I think it was Dec.1. I believe it said 700 hrs. Were these good tractors? What did they have for a transmission. Saw the ad on "ag talk" site. TIA jps

They were a decent tractor, but if you break them you better have deep pockets. IF you can find the parts. We have one in the salvage yard because it was going to cost 35 grand for the powershift parts to fix it, and that was at 15% off list price.

We have one and love it. Only weakness I can see is the transmission brake. It is basically the same as a truck tranny brake--too small. Never had any real trouble with it. When I bought it at an auction there were 5 or 6 others that already owned it that I was bidding against. Must be good if they all wanted another one. Not many built so parts may be an issue. they were last built in 1988.

Wow! That scares me alittle. Bought a 4-270 last fall, 7400 hrs. Really like it, have to wait for the transmission brake at times and the powershift seems noisey. $35000 for parts for the powershift, you got to be kidding!

Worked on several of these trannies, no joke they are spendy, most problems occurred after new tires put on and engine and tranny were allowed to really digg in and lug down, primitive cab compared to same era 4wd, steiger of this model year probably most cost efficient for my dollar
