What is the best way to repair/replace the suspension on a 4010 seat? The cushions are fairly new but the seat rocks from side to side and front to back; not very comfortable...Darald in Sk

the arms that the bushings are in are usauly waloed out , it's best to buy the arms, replace all of the steel bushings & bolts , the shock is nasty to change but it needs replaced to fix it right I have seen them advertised in after market supplyers already instaled in the holder this would be the best way to go, I have redone a lot of them ,it's not cheap but the better ride is worth it,if you want I can put a parts list together for you...

I fixed my brother's 4020 seat by using starter bushings from mid 70's chevy starters inside the rollers. You might get buy with new white rollers and you might not. His seat would almost touch the fenders. The stems for the rollers were worn also thats why I went with the bushings, copper not the brass pressed type. Was working on the tractor and just decided to tear the seat down and see what was wrong and I had the bushings already. Take the rear center braces off for the armrest amd slide seat down and off of the rollers and take a look. Watch for the rollers to drop and the cable to assist spring. There is also steel plates inside of the bushings but don't know if they are available, but washers would work. I may have got lucky with this one. Adjust spring with a flat screwdriver from the outside, didn't know about this till years later/maybe even looking in a book.

A parts list would be great...I have looked through Marshalls, Draper and Westward parts books but the only supension parts I find for JD's are back in the later 2 cyl's. Thankyou...Darald in Sk

The white nylon rollers on most 4010's had spacers inside that took the sideways slop out of the seats. Deere losened up the specs on the 20 series as the 10 series tended to rust up and cause the seats to be hard to adjust.I always liked the 10 series seat better for that reason.

My 1961 4010 seat was quite worn out. So last Fall, I tore it apart and bought new bushing and rollers. As mentioned in this thread, many of the holes used for the bushing were "wallered" out pretty bad....but with the help of a welder, I was able to build it all up quite well. The seat today is AWESOME!
