Did they make and where can you get a powershift manual for maintaining and rebuilding for a 4020/4000?

You need a 4000 series tech manual. Deere has them and several places reprint them. Ebay is a good place to look. Not cheap but worth the cost. Tom

John Deere has great Tech Manual; TC-1006 for 4000-4020 tractors S/N- 201000- up... Try Jensales --Minnesota 1-800- 443-0625..

Get a real Deere manual. Don't waste your money on a reprint from Jensales. The quality is so poor you can't read half the pages.

Oops, JIM MN has a misprint, it's not TC-1006, the technical manual would be TM1006. There are a couple OEM ones on eBay. This site sells Jensales reprints. You can confirm the right manual part number for your tractor, and its serial number, by searching on the JD Ag Technical Information Store. There is an 800 number there if you want to ask questions to get the right manual. You can also download the John Deere Operator's Manuals for free from there.

I recently bought some reprint manuals from Peaceful Creek Manuals. Not sure if they have the one you are looking for, but they have a very good product

bv, I have this manual, SM-2039, in PDF form. If you are interested, It is quite a large file ( I had to break it up into 14 parts to get it) I could try to email it to you or put it on a thumb drive?

It doesn't look like your manual (SM2039) has the Powershift transmission information, which he is asking for. TM1006 has both, the Syncro-Range and Powershift transmissions.

Jim.ME, here is a shot of one of the pages. Does have a detailed section that has the P.S. transmission.

That's good, it may cover his needs. One would not know that if they were going to buy a manual by looking at the index, it only shows Syncro-Range. I wonder if the level of Powershift detail is the same in the SM2039 as the TM1006 which has a separate Powershift section.

Fair enough, this shows they changed the indexes, in later printings. Yours shows it has the Powershift section, Mike's does not. One can wonder if they put better info in the later printings as well, that generally occurs as more is found out about the machines and improvements are made. Best to purchase manuals with print dates equal to or newer than the machine build date or serial number, would you agree?

,

And the date on TM1006 is newer still and it references a starting serial number. bv has not posted exactly what machine he is working on, so any of the ones discussed might be technically right, or wrong, for his tractor. I lean towards going with the newest manual, as they often pickup things that came out as service bulletins prior to the print date.

I have a 72 model 4000 that I bought earlier this year
and havent had time to work on it yet

If you are going to buy a manual, try to find one with a publication date of 1972 or after to have the best info they published at the time of your tractor's build. JMHO
