4020 aftermarket step

After running our neighbors 4020 with a JD aftermarket step I have been thinking about getting one for ours. So I checked Deere and the step kit is 405 bucks, the last time I checked it was under 300 I thought. Seems kind of steep. I found one from Shoup and from Sloan Ex. but was wondering how these compare in durability and strength, I mean the JD one is real heavy duty but seems expensive. Anyone have any other set up that they like?

I have a K&M step kit on my 4440. I am very pleased with it. It makes it much easier to get in and out of the tractor. Mike

I have the JD on my 4320 and 4520 and a K&M on my 4840. If I ever get another tractor without one I will spend the money on the JD ones. They are heavier and better built. My Dad is the main one to benifit from them but you can see when he gets on the tractor the JD stays still and you can see the K&M flex. Nothing has broken on the K&M but I think the JD will last better. I got mine during a winter part sale and the price was not that much different.

Why not build your own, could not take to much time. At that price you could spend a whole day and a little paint. I would think you could buy iron for less that 50.00 dallors. Brent.

I did make one before but it proved to be too weak. It just bolted to the bottom of the original step and then it flexed too much. This is what I have now.

I have one of the " Premier Industries " brand step extensions, that I bought through a Green Magazine ad.

Nice step extension.
Easy to install.
Great quality.
Great price. ( only $75.00 with shipping )

They can be contacted at 715-278-3939

I don't know how I ever got along without it.

Does your 4320 or 4520 have the hinson cab? I think the JD step (RE62856) would make a great present for Grandpa"s 4020. He struggles climbing in now. But how does it mount?
It lists for $423 right now on sale. Here"s the hinson cab step diagram, the step is #30 and it"s pretty narrow besides being banged up and bent

At the New York state Farm Show, I tried out the steps Worthington Ag Parts and Abilene sell. Worthington's flexed. Abilene's is impressively rigid. They are both available with handrails. I don't recall the prices. They are the style of the one shown in the color photo in this thread.
