4020 big 1000 pto?

does anyone make a big (1 3/4) 1000 rpm pto shaft for a 4020? I have a batwing with the big 1000 that I'd like to run on my 4020 & bush hog wants serious $$$ for a extra front half of the pto shaft with the small 1000 knuckle.

Deere doesn't seem to offer it in their parts book. That's not the first time I have looked, I'd like to have one too. I would have to look at it closer, but I think that the shaft would be to large in diameter to allow for the snap ring to go over. It would have a cut in it for the snap ring and create a shear point. That could be a problem, but hey I wonder how many 540 shafts have been sheared off the back of a tractor. Atleast they are easy to replace. looks like your best bet is an adapter, but get a good one.

You should be able to find pto parts other places to make up your own shaft or change that end out.

I toyed with the idea of having a machine shop make me one. even with a groove cut for the snap ring it would probably still as strong as the small 1000 and 540 shafts and maybe even stronger than an adapter. If somebody could figure it out I think they sell a ton of em. The same shaft would fit a whole lot of tractors.

Hey NJS,

You might end up shocked at how much a machine shop would quote you to do that.

I was just at a machine shop to see how much it'd cost to have them make those double ended bolts that you use to mount weights on the front of the tractor. Deere wants $35.50 each - highway robbery. I bet it costs them 2.59 a pop because they'd have hundreds made in a batch. Well the machine shop said 25 bucks a pop. I'm just gonna put the bolts I had been using right back on.

BTW, how big a mower are you planning on putting on a 95 hp tractor? I have an MX10 (10ft) that gives my 4010 all it wants and will make my 4430 snort in the woods.

15 foot batwing. I was only planning on mowing pasture, and all thats there is a little headed out grass and weeds the cows wont eat. Grampa has torn just about every mirror and light off the 2wd 4650 on low tree branches
