4020 cooling pressure

is the line that runs along side the thermostat housing on a 4020 diesel and goes into the top of the water pump a pressure line from the water pump?

It would appear so. My early 4020 parts book shows a bypass line with nipple for adding cab heaters. AR44605 for gas and LP, AR44606 for diesel. AR44962 for diesel tractors with air conditioning.

Different vintages of 4020 connect the bypass lines differently which complicates matters. Looks like finding the Deere part would be the deluxe path, but if there's a bit of hose as some have, then tapping that hose with a T (maybe shortening the original bypass pipe) will work.

I don't see where the return line goes. Its probably covered in the tech manual for the cab which I don't have.

mine has that nipple on that line. there looks to me to be two pressure ports off the water pump. the one by the thermostat's and the one that goes to the oil cooler. another picture i saw looks like most returns go to the port on the left side of the block so gonna try that. just wanted to make sure i was looking at pressure side correctly.

I checked the shop manual. That bypass line lets water circulate through the block to make the engine warm up evenly when the thermostats are closed. So its the place to tap for the heater core.
