4020 how do I get more power

What is the easiest way to get more power out of my 4020D. I know all the normal ways turning up the pump & turbo what are some other things I can do. I read somewhere you can change the cam I am looking for reliable horsepower. I don't want to turn it up so much that I break things but just enough for fieldwork .

Trade it for the later model 4430. If you look a few threads down they are talking about putting the 4320 turbocharger setup on a 4020. That would give you lots of good reliable power.

If you want more power that is reliable get yourself a 4250 or if it has to be cheap get yourself a 4430 or 4440.

If you like the 20 series you could go for a 4320 or a 4620.

All of the above mentioned tractors are likely to be worn out and in need of repair.

We have a 4620 to but we have 4020 needs to be rebuilt looking for some ideas of things to do to it. not really looking to replace it just looking to Fix the old girl up

If you want to freshen it up a bit,put the new piston liner kit in ,of course re-size the rods and have the crank checked, re-place the cam shaft with a new Deere cam,new injectors and have the injector pump re-built, tell the pump shop you want a bit more than stock. This will give you a good strong 115hp or so with out a turbo, adding a turbo to this set-up will give you an aditional 15 0r 20 hp, you will have a strong 4020 that will live to tell about it.

thanks Tim that's what I was looking for read somewhere about using cam and injection pump out of the 6600 combine Anyone ever done this

I have never reasearched the spec's of them there may be a small advantage to useing one, if your buying new there probably isn't much difference in the price,,and they may even sub to the same part #

We"ve rebuilt a few and installed new, early, 4840 cams and have been impressed with the quick increase in power, 15-20 with a clean stack.

We have had a few and I realize dynos vary but the
tractors with known correct overhauls with the new
style kits and everything correct start faster and
usually have in excess of 100 H.P.with little
smoke. Just 5% extra fuel makes a difference. When I was much
younger we would add power to everything and after
running it for awhile would want more. Sometimes
power is in the mind set.Not in this case but the
best way to have more dependable power is to get
the next size bigger.
