Hello all,
i was just wondering if anyone knew how many 4020 narrow fronts were made? i've found info for hi-crop, standard etc but not the narrows.

Any help would be great.

Peter

They are easily changed, just unbolt and bolt on the other front, wide, rollomatic, stiff narrow dual wheels, or single wheel. 4 or 8 bolts. No other changes.

Yea i understand that.

Just wanted to know as my bro has the option to buy an original narrow over here in the UK (not imported), it's the only one we have ever seen over here and wanted to know how many were made as a whole.

According to the Jan/Feb 2008 issue of Two Cylinder Magazine, lots of that detailed information was never noted or kept at the Deere factory at Waterloo, Ia. Even more useful, in the early years of the new generation tractors and 4020 with PS the transmission types were not noted on the sheets for each tractor. So going through the log books isn't enough to know the relative numbers of PS or SR transmissions. It would appear that fronts were not mentioned either.

Single wheel fronts I think were not used much anywhere except may vegetable farms. Straight narrow and rollomatic narrow, I've seen more of, but I suspect the wide fronts were predominant. But I don't think its known how predominant.

Can't add to what's been posted, but.......for the 3010/4010 and through the first years (probably through 65 or 66) of the 3020/4020, tricycles (roll-a-matics) were MUCH more common locally than the wide fronts. Based strictly on my CRS memory, I'd say probably 4 or 5 to 1. You could put a mounted cotton picker or corn picker on the tricycles.

The single fronts were used in many areas in the south where crops were grown on beds. Cotton was grown on beds in the Delta as well as Arkansas and Texas. They were also used in areas where beds were used to utilize furrow irrigation. The SFW fits right down in the valley of the bed without disturbing the bed on either side and also stays put in between the beds.
