4020 SMOKES

RECENTLY BOUGHT A 4020 RUNS GREAT BUT SMOKES LIKE CRAZY AT IDLE. ONCE YOU REV IT UP AND GET WORKING WITH IT ITS FINE UNTIL U GO BACK TO IDLE. IT ALSO WILL REV ALL THE WAY UP BY ITSELF AT LOW RPM?? ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREAT ITS A DIESEL FORGOT THAT PART

If it smokes, try nicorette gum or possibly the nicotine patches to help it quit smoking.

I had a lil smoke when I first bought my 4230.. I took it out and plowed with it for a few days. Seemed to clear up

The revving up usually means the governor in the injecter pump is about ready to fly apart. You should have it rebuilt soon before it makes the engine fly apart. We have a 4010 that revs up like yours. If you jerk the throttle down (open), then close it up to idle, you can regain control. This trick will only work for so long...

how much is involved in takkein the injector pump off any special marks for timin i need to keep track of or just un bolt and put back on??

Buy a manuel, must have engine at TDC on one or six. one you have the pump off, do not turn it! take it to a shop and they will put it back at TDC one or six, what ever way it came in. I f it has pencil nozzles, they are around 25 bucks apiece. pump you will have to get an estimate on, but will be around 500. There is a small plate beneath th breakpedals, on the clutch housing. It has two screws, remove and on left side of hole is a marker. flywheel is marked TDC but does not say one or six. Always rotate engine CCW from tractor seat. Good Luck

nicorett won't do a thing for ya, you don't give a crackhead crack to help him quite, same with nicotine, its like switchin from cigarettes to chew and thinkin its better. a smokey engine is a little difrnt than a that i would do what was suggested and work it good for a day and if it doesn't clear up than its time to get a shop manual and try to narrow down the issue or take it to your local mechanic
