I need some help.
I have a JD 4020 Diesel Powershift.
Serail T213P 1975591R. 24volt w/ generator.
Key swithch, pushbutton start.
The positive from the Left battery goes direct to the starter. The neg from the Rt battery crosses over the tranny to the starter.

I have a problem somewhere in the wiring that I need a wiring digram for.
Every digram I have (for a 4020) does not match what I have.
Does any one have one they can post?

I truley would appericate it.

What electrical problem do you have?? Granted these are for a 4010 but I don't remember 4020 being a lot different until JD came out with a circuit breaker kit on the starter.

The problem is a long story.

Last summer the tractor would not crank.
So I would put 2 battery chargres on it (if I put 1 I might as well put 2). After a few minutes the tractor could crank and start fine.
Then crank and strat good the rest of the day.

When time premited (this winter) I parked the tractor for repairs.
I installed 2 new batteries. And I got nothing. the tractor did not even act like it any bateires.
I pulled and had the starter rebuilt.
Replaced the starter and nothing.

All the connectios are good.
All battery cables are good.

It appears like the push button start has 12V on both sides (but one side seems to be reversed polarity).

I do not know what year the tractor is.

Do you have batteries installed correctly? Battery cable(parts key #22) should be attached to negative post on LH battery and battery cable(parts key #23) should be attached to positive post on RH battery. If cables are attached correctly with all 4 clean/tight connections then I'd guess neutral start switch(parts key #14) or push button is faulty.

DISCLAIMER/CAUTION: With tractor in "NEUTRAL"(preferably with some one in the seat) can you short across small post(the one yellow wire is attached) to upper large post on starter solenoid and start engine???

Another long story.
On my tractor (I've owend it 15 years) the Lt battery positive goes direct to the starter (it does not cross over).

I think, after looking at alot of digrams and talking to people that should know. I think someone, changed the position of the battery cables on this tractor.
But, it's been working like this for 15 years, so, it might not follow the digram on paper correctly. I think I've had a correct digram, but just did not relize it.

Regardless. I have a elec problem somewhere.
I have to troble shoot it.

Ok here's a wiring schematic for the cable that crosses over. If the LH battery cable attaches to positive post on the LH battery(parts key # 27 AR28950 BATTERY CABLE (RC AND HC) NEGATIVE L.H.) it's hooked incorrectly no matter how long it's been that way!!!!!!!!!!
