4024 Injectors

Looking for expert advise. We have John Deere 4024 based generator. After few weeks of use it died and wont start. Local mechanic couldnt get it going so we called John Deere guru, who did manage to get it going (by manually flipping some start relay) but now says that first guy didnt put injectors in right order resulting in rough operation. This is the first time I hear that you need to match injectors with cylinders. Is there such a thing and whats the way to get it back in order?

If nozzles were pulled out and put back a good chance they went into different cylinders need to be re adjusted.

What engine is in a 4024 ??

The engine is marked 4024TF270

So there is no link between cylinder # and injector, right?
How hard is to re adjust those? any online resources how to do this ?

I'm still not sure what engine you have, I've never heard of a 4024, I want to think It's along the line of a 4020, but not sure, if it is there is no match-up needed with the injectors..

The 4024TF270 is 146 cu in turo four cyl has one pump per cyl internally mounted may have dirt in the injs need to pull out and test spray pattern and psi

Have worked on many of these engines.Injectors and pumps are NOT matched to cyl"s. If pumps were removed, then special tools and experiance are needed to balance pumps one to another. Best go to a JD dealer who has done a minimum of 25 engines to get it right. Its very tricky.

I might add that I have the tools and have worked with factory rep's at engine works on the injection systems since they were first produced.

Can injectors/pumps be tuned outside of the motor they are in now? Engine is in Belize and local tech doesnt know how to tune them.

I am in northern Ontario. Work is performed with pumps in engine.

Part # of pumps have been updated many times,are you sure you have the latest unit's?

whatever came with the engine. how do i find out ?

Find part # on pump,then check with a JD dealer to see if it's the latest.Send me to Belize and pay all my expences and might perform the repair

I read your first note again. All that needs to be done is have pumps indexed properly.

how would you fix it over there with no test tools etc ?

I have the tools. Small enough to put in my coat pocket.

how come the local tech (he maintains a lot of tractors in the country) said it cant be done over there ?

Can't be done in Belize??? Thats the only place it can be done, the engine is in Belize, is it not? Pumps must be installed IN the engine and timed to fuel rack and to each other. If he has a servive manual,then he should use it.

He does have shop manual and did the timing. what he is saying pumps and nozzles are matched at the factory and that match was mixed up. Can the match be done at the engine or pumps need to be sent to the manufacturer ?

I know the nozzles and pumps are matched at factory. If they got mismatched it's ok. No problem. You just can't buy them separately. He better go and retime pumps to rack. It is a very critical ajustment. Is he using a dial indicater to make the ajustment? Works best to work alone so he won't be interupted and sidetracked.

The 4024 is a 4 cylinder engine that john deere uses in generators and compact utility tractors. there are 4 injection pumps, one per cylinder. The pumps have to be "clocked" with one another in order to run properly. It takes special tools and a tech manual to time the pumps. The pumps and injectors are not specific to the cylinders. I have changed injectors and pumps in a 4024, the procedure is not difficult if you have the proper tools.
