hey guys. im wanting to put a joystick on my tractor for my loader. the guys at deere think im crazy that they still make non electronic sticks anymore so im coming here for advice. i have found cross and prince joystick valves but not sure how to go about it. ive heard something about a power beyond block you have to install and a few other things. i do know i want to free my two scv valves to where i can run loader and other hydraulics at same time without having to disconnect and reconnects lines all the time. plus for a bonus i dont want to spend a ton. i have an idea on what the joystick valve costs but no the rest thanks

PBY block aka auxiliary outlet(parts key 4) cost around $300

Back when I had a loader on my 4255 with a JS control valve I teed into block(parts key 29A or 29B depending on tractor SN) for pressure and returned oil to the rockshaft return line. My loader operated fine for loading/unloading rd bales.

I just helped a friend of mine add a 843 loader to his 4650. Used a JD Joystick for it. I have a 4250 with a 280 loader and have done a total of 3 of them now exactly the same. All you do is get a power beyond plate, which gives you flow (and return) to the remote valve. I would look around for a used one. I was certian Larry was advertising one for sale not long ago. Might save you a few bucks if you can find one.

For the actual valve setup, I like to stick with deere products because some of the aftermarket valves and such kinda scare me a bit. The joystick kit is all you really need and is still available thru deere. And thankfully so because not everyone drives a 8000R series tractor with plug and play electronics.

Anyhow the valve we used is a [b:564431cbd6]BW13247[/b:564431cbd6]. This is the 2-function valve. They do offer a 3 function if you plan to run a grapple or you can just run the grapple off a remote as well. This kit has just about everything except the hoses that run from you power beyond plate to the valve. You can get those fabricated yourself once you know how long to make them. It runs just over a grand brand new, which is not terrible considering how nice it works and all the parts are available thru JD. Just remember it does make a difference which port is pressure and which one is relief on the valve. I can advise if needed.

Here's how it looks in the cab. Would be similar even if you had a open station.

Here's how the valve looks and mounts. Two very short 1/2" carriage bolts will bolt it to the battery box with existing holes (no drilling req'd)

I splurged and added a foot throttle to my tractor. You would not believe how handy this is. I guess if you are used to a 3020/4020 then you can imagine. Why they didn't make these standard on 30-60 series I don't know. But when you have your hands full with the joystick, it's nice to be able to goose it without letting go.

Another thing I did on mine was add a front camera. I use forks on my loader 10x more than the bucket. The camera helps me pick up pallets and all sorts of other things as I can't see directly in front of the tractor without it. I thought about mounting the camera on the boom or bucket somehow but this location works well enough for now.

Ok thanks. Very helpful. I asked my Deere guy about the exact same stick u have. I had one on an old 4640 we had. Loved it. He acted like I was crazy. May need a new part guy. But that's a little more than I want to spend at the moment. Just spent close to 2000 getting hydraulics fixed. I might try and find one used if I can

Used ones are pretty scarce I'd say. I tried locating a used one myself with no luck. You'll likely spend 600-700 for a used one if you can find any. They are good property IMO. Like said, we were blessed that they were still available because a few of the similar valve kits were NLA. If your parts guy is so smart, I'd like to see what he could come up with.

As far as I know
YOU CAN NOT BUY A NEW VAVLE for those tractors like newgen said if your parts man is so good let us know.I bought a used one that took me a few weeks to find

I might be I interested. I can get a new cross valve for 315 though. Does it come with the power valve too?

(quoted from post at 18:17:36 02/06/15) I would like the number so I can get 1 my dealer said NLA and that is not lower alabama

Also Monty, if you are looking at a used setup that needs cables, they are around $120 each so you would want to keep that in mind.

The joysticks in the 4430 and 4450 at work are
mounted a little different. The 50s is too far
forward the 30s is about perfect. Sit in the seat
and make sure it's handy when you mount it.
The one in the 30 was mounted new 2 years ago.
I can do just as well with the loader and grapple on
the remotes. Maybe even a little faster.

Yeah I'm pretty good doing just the standard levers but mainly want so im not tying up my scvs in back. This is my main tractor now and use for swathing and baling. Just don't have the cash flow to go in another grand on it right now. Have to much equipment that needs tlc before a luxury item can be bought. Thanks everyone this helps me out a lot for what I need and where to look.

well your right when i put that number in my dealer is priced the same i was never able to find it as a unit

I understand that.

The third function on the joystick is mounted low on
its left side. Have to move your hand a ways to go
between levers. Can't steer the tractor while
running all 3 functions. I could with them on the
remotes.

Still prefer the open 4020 with the controls mounted
on the loader upright to either of them though.
Unless it's cold and windy.
