420W Decal locations

Does anyone knoe if there is a reference guide for the decal locations on a 57 420w? We took good pics and measurements before the tear down.. Just want to make sure we are accurate..

You are correct, the decals goes on the sides of hood,as your measurements indicate.

The early 420 tractors had the side john deere decal pretty close to the front of the hood.The later ones it was closer to the middle.I usually look at pictures in the two cylinder magazine to get them correct.Some of those guys selling decals give the wrong locations.

All of the original decals were still on the tractor but once they are gone, even with pics and measurements, I have a feeling its going to be a guessing game..

Not really.The 420 has a center hood bolt you can use as a guage as to where the decal goes.If you find a good original picture you can see where the decal goes in relationship to the center bolt.
It's pretty accurate that way.

I did my best to get the decals on and I’m disappointed with the type, I like using vinyl letters as opposed to plastic film. I found a very nice restoration online and gauged my placement from that.

Oops. Forgot the pics. I lost one of my hood bolts so I’ve got to get another one. I used stainless steel socket heads.

You took pictures, you are good! The hood John Deere is located different by serial number. I made my own reference guide. You know where all your decals go? In your John Deere 420-430 Parts book, in the back, list all the decal that should be on your tractor. Best decals I know of are; Jordes Decals, can see at Jordes Decals.Org from Iowa 515-571-1027.
