4230 troubles

150 hours on overhaul. New cam, head completely gone through, new valves seats springs. Uses no oil but smokes on full throttle doesn"t matter if it going down the road or just sitting. It has new injectors, valves are set dead nuts, timing is dead on. Pump was rebuilt many years ago. Wondering if I need to back off the fuel? Have pump rebuilt? Just irritating watching the light trail of black smoke going down the road. Really smokes heavy black under heavy load. Seems like to much fuel to me but I am no expert. Thanks

"Seems like to much fuel to me"

If that were the case, it would be overspeeding, out of control of the governor.

There was a discussion way back about annoying low smoke.
Advancing the pump timing 10 to maybe 15 deg would cut down on smoke and give the engine more snap, and that diesel rattle.
I advanced my 4320 and thought it cut back on the smoke, but there never was a trail of black following me.

Back off a little on the pump.

I would also advance the timing to about 4 degrees, we have 4020 at 10, and could be to hot for turbo engine.

I think your pump is not advancing enough or perhaps not at all. A timing window will tell if the trimmer screw needs adjusting . Transfer pump pressure could be low as well and this will cause the advance to not work ,however it cant be too low if it starts good at 10 degrees . In fact if it starts that good be sure to keep track of adjustments to timing in case it goes south .
