hey guys, my 4250 mfwd is leaking alot of oil right abouve the pitman arm. ive got a new seal for it, it looks like im going to have to drop the axle down some to put it in. is this so? also can i pick the old seal out or is it easier to unbolt the wole piece the seal sits in. im not really sure whats under there. thanks

There is also an oring that seals the cover. Before you remove the front axle, check the pivot pins to see how loose they are. And get the steering arm loose from the shaft before removing the assembly. Easier on the tractor then the bench. The shaft is timed so make sure it goes back in the same way it come out. chris

One of the reasons for that seal to fail is oil leaking past the steer pistons,,,I would consider resealing the steer motor now too,, as well as replacing the pivot bushings and pins,, I know this sounds like piling on work,, but it"s better than removing the front axle a second or third time..
