4320 electrical probelems

Have a 4320 that keeps discharging the battery when it sits. If it's not dead, it starts like a bear. And some times the lights will quit working now and then. Batteries are relatively new (2 yrs), starter is new (1 yr). Kind of at a loss at where to start. Right now we're just pull starting it or keeping it on the charger when we use it. We're worried about this fall though. It's always been a cold blooded old girl, but I want it to be a reliable starter for harvest. Any suggestions on where to start?

Don't completely discount the batteries. I had a set in a 4020 that drove me crazy at about the same age as your batteries. Also, it only takes one bad battery to drain the other, especially if it's a 12V system.

There's not much in the way of electrical on a 20-series. Get a cheap ammeter and start see if you're drawing any current at all from the batteries. If so, then start reconnecting circuits one at a time to see where it's going.

with the batteries charged up,remove the battery ground cable on right side.put a test light between ground cable and the battery post.if the light,lights you have a completed circuit which will drain the battery.
the wiring is under the left dash cowl.disconnect wires until the light goes out.
no light. no short.
are the batteries dirty which can discharge battery.

remove charger and remove ground cable,see if batteries go dead

Probably the alternator or regulator causing problem. Hook test light between battery & battery ground and try dis-connecting alt.

Did the tractor do this with your other batteries? I bought some battereies from a battery store (batteries plus) to be exact tryin to save a little cash and they were junk from the word go. dead after a year. Never made that mistake again went to deere and theve been goin strong for 3 years now. I would check my alternator and starter too. It doesnt take much krud in the starter to cause it to short. sounds like something drawin it down pretty good if it sits over nite and is dead the next day.
