anyone know about how much you can safely shave the cylinder head on a 44-6 massey-harris? thanks.

You can take .100 - .125 off the head. It raises the compression ratio, but it causes more severe issues with flow. What you gain in compression actually hurts you on the way the eninge breathes.

any way to do anything to make the engine breathe better after shaving the head to boost compression?

If your thinking about pulling it, park it and get a 4 cylinder those 6's when they loose RPM's they are done.They just dont have it.

better yet don't modify it at all. keep it as close to stock as you can. it cost less green stuff.

If you want it to breath better find a engine out of a Kaiser. They were the same engine except they were 12 port blocks. Finding a updraft manifold is the most difficult but they are available. Hope this helps.
