You can take .100 - .125 off the head. It raises the compression ratio, but it causes more severe issues with flow. What you gain in compression actually hurts you on the way the eninge breathes.
 
If your thinking about pulling it, park it and get a 4 cylinder those 6's when they loose RPM's they are done.They just dont have it.
 
better yet don't modify it at all. keep it as close to stock as you can. it cost less green stuff.
 
If you want it to breath better find a engine out of a Kaiser. They were the same engine except they were 12 port blocks. Finding a updraft manifold is the most difficult but they are available. Hope this helps.
