44 jd B brakes

B n 60

New User
One of my bakes on a 44 B is froze and I am having a heck of a time trying to the assembly out. I can pull it out about 2.5" and then it seems to get hung up on something. Anyone have any tips/ideas on how to get it out? The break spins freely when it"s out, so I"m pretty sure its not getting snagged on the bull gear...

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

can u see the brake shoes ? when the drum is pulled out. if not the shoes may b catching on a lip on the inside of the drum. mine had the same problem. if the adj screw turns back it out. also the shaft and inner bushing could be burred filled with rust. get a can of loose juice, small hammer, small pry bar, and just take it slow u will get it

thanks. i got it out last night. turns out the gears were so badly worn that they actually got pressed out to a larger diameter and barely squeezed out through the housing. going to have to shave a little bit of them off before throwing her back in...
